چکیده

This paper introduces a model for Distributed Employee Timetabling Problems (DisETPs) and proposes a general architecture for solving DisETPs by using a Multi Agent System (MAS) paradigm. The architecture is composed of a set of autonomous software Scheduling Agents (SAs) that solve the Employee Timetabling Problems (ETP) for each department. Each agent has its own local ETP problem and its own goals. The Scheduling Agents must coordinate these goals with the other agents in order to achieve a solution for the whole organization that yields a better result with respect to the global targets. To achieve a coherent and consistent global solution, the SAs make use of a sophisticated negotiation protocol among scheduling agents that always ends in an agreement (not ensured to be optimal). The main functionalities of this protocol are agent to agent relation definition, a mechanism to approve a chain of Request for Changes and an electronic marketplace for bidding on preferred common time slots. Experimental analysis of the implemented Multi Agent System for the Soroka medical center is presented. The results of our study indicate that the proposed framework has the potential to reduce the cost of transportation for the nurses scheduled by the hospital.

A Hybrid Modeling for Continuous Casting Scheduling Problem

This paper deals with a multi-agent-based interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) expert systemfor scheduling steel continuous casting. Continuous caster scheduling is a complex and extensiveprocess that needs expert staff. In this study, a distributed multi-agent-based structure is proposed as asolution. The agents used herein can cooperate with each other via various communication protocols. To facilitat...

Opportunities for Learning in Multi-Agent Meeting Scheduling

In this paper we explore opportunities for learning in Multi-Agent Meeting Scheduling. We view this multiagent task as fully distributed with several challenging characteristics: (i) agents have ownership of their own calendars; (ii) agents exchange information among each other with the goal of finding an open meeting time; (iii) agents can negotiate multiple meetings concurrently. We have impl...

Agent-based Fuzzy Constraint-directed Negotiation Mechanism for Planning and Scheduling in Supply Chain

This paper presents an agent-based fuzzy constraintdirected negotiation mechanism for planning and scheduling in supply chain. The supply chain scheduling problem is modeled as a set of fuzzy constraint satisfaction problems (FCSPs), interlinked together by inter-agent constraints. For converging each distinct firm’s interests, the conflicts among the set of FCSPs are resolved through negotiati...

Team-Work based Architecture for Distributed Manufacturing Scheduling

This paper presents a Team-Work based architecture for Distributed Manufacturing Scheduling with Genetic Algorithms and Tabu Search. We consider that a good global solution for a scheduling problem may emerge from a community of machine agents solving locally their schedules and cooperating with other machine agents. Social aspects are considered when a community of autonomous agents cooperate ...
